Japanese Knitting

For some reason it seems like I'm always going to the stitch dictionaries I have to find different lace patterns, and I can never find the right thing. Vogue Stitchionary has a tiny lace section, and I have an old Barbara Abbey book, but the photos are hard to see. So I remembered the Japanese pattern books that I have seen around once in a blue moon, and thought maybe I should branch out and try that. Luckily others have paved the way and its not as hard to get your hands on one as it used to be. I'm ordering this one and possibly another one or two (free shipping and no self control).
I remember a scarf I saw in Vogue knitting a few years ago, that made honorable mention in some contest having to do with breast cancer awareness. It was by a Japanese knitter and it was fabulous. It was a knitted three-dimensional lacy rose with a long 'stem' with leaves. I wish there was some kind of pattern for it. I should find that photo and see if the designer is listed online. I've also heard that Japanese short-rows are executed differently than American/English, and that it is really a superior and more beautiful technique. Don't know anyone in Texas that teaches that sort of thing, but it sure would be interesting.

My allergies are KILLING me. I feel like my head is full of concrete. Going to go put my head in some steam and hope that helps.

Have you ever tried a neti pot? It's basically a little ceramic pot that you fill with warm water with some salt dissolved, and you use it to clean out your nose and sinuses. Extremely easy to do, and very effective for allergies. I have HORRIBLE hay fever, and don't need to take medication if I use this 3-4 times a day (only takes a few minutes) when my allergies are bad. Hope you feel better soon!

I feel your pain with the allergies....nasty business.

I've never used the neti pot but have been interested in it. I just don't know if I could make myself do it.

The pattern dictionary looks lovely.

Thank you for the suggestions. I actually do have a neti pot, it's just a matter of making myself use the thing consistently. I think it would help tremendously if I could get in the habit of using it daily. Need to give that another try.
