Lame, Lame, and Lame

What is the deal with this season of Project Runway? Making clothes from grocery store items and car parts?!? Drag queens and Olympic Ceremony outfits? I'm sorry, does anyone actually buy that this is fashion? Sure, I get a wacky challenge thrown in here and there to test versatility and innovation. But come on! I have been waiting to see some actual clothing. I recall when Michael Patrick King (of SATC) made a remark about all the phony fashion on TV, and named Project Runway specifically, and I thought it was so strange. I have always enjoyed the show and thought he was completely wrong, but watching this season, I am starting to agree. What is this garbage? Not to mention, the designer 'personas' are so blatantly obnoxious. It's like they have all watched the show in the past, and saw that the people with the big, distinctive personalities have gotten lots of attention, and they just seem so desperately contrived. How very boring.

Okay, too much negativity. Had a really crummy day. Will be better tomorrow.

ETA: Okay, after watching the whole show, there were some really great designs after all. Still, I hope they are back to using normal sewing materials next week.

Yes, you did have a bad day yesterday. Anyone would have had a lousy day under the circumstances. I don't watch PR, but it does sound a little crazy to me! Have a better day today. I love you.

You are supposedly a designer and you can't see the merit of designing for drag queens? Sorry lady, you have no vision.

No, it's not that I can't see the merit. That's not what I said. I see the value in designing for drag queens the same way in which there is value in costume design for movies and theatrical plays. It is absolutely valuable. But, it is not really fashion, in the strictest sense. And that is what I tune in to the show for.

However, I suppose you're right. My scope is somewhat narrow and restrictive. Sorry; really I meant no offense. Three cheers for drag queens!

I so agree with you on this season of PR. The last episode where they got rid of two designers at once just screamed "Get this season done as fast as possible!" to me.

It's not the challenges that bother me, most of them would have been fascinating to watch other seasons deal with, but this crew of contestants are just not up to the quality level I'd like to see.

Does it seem to you like they're spending more time on the personal dramas and less on the clothing than previous years?

Oh well, no show stays good forever.

i also agree about their personas but was pleasantly surprised by the results of the car parts show. i actually really *loved* several of the finished products! in previous seasons, i was really pulling for specific people, but this season it's more like who i just want to leave so i don't have to hear them talk anymore.
love your knitty design!! God bless people who actually want to make attractive, interesting sweaters and not cloth sacks!
